Discussing the development and maintenance of relationships that can develop into friendships, Scrivener and Knox note that there are few resources on this topic. Yet we are made in God's image, and he is a relational god. Jesus taught that relationships are vital to the spread of the Gospel and that Christians are to be the "light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). Surveys indicate that in the last few years the numbers of non-Christian friends known by Christians have declined. This is in part likely because, as humans, we tend to migrate towards those who are similar to us, so Christians may mostly have friendships with other Christians.
