The Unbiblical Pursuit of a Trouble-Free Life

In this thought-provoking article, John Piper reminds us that the Christian path is not necessarily an easy one. Whilst we might try to avoid stress and seek comfort and peace, Piper highlights biblical passages that tell us that stress and danger are normal -- "“through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God” (Acts 14:22)." Christians face a path towards need, not comfort and consequently, as Hebrews 10.36 states, endurance is required.

"There is a mind-set in the prosperous West that we deserve pain-free, trouble-free existence. When life deals us the opposite, we have a right not only to blame somebody or some system and to feel sorry for ourselves, but also to devote most of our time to coping, so that we have no time or energy left over for serving others."
